Identifying and encouraging high-quality candidates to become Non-Executive Directors is a challenging task. Public organisations are complex and often tightly regulated. Many public sector organisations turnover can be measured in the hundreds of millions and staff numbers can run into the tens of thousands. Individuals who sit on these Boards, therefore, carry significant responsibility, expectation and exposure.

Candidates who lack previous Non-Executive experience are often seen as higher risk appointments. We can offer a small number of aspiring Non-Executive Directors first-hand experience of how our Board works. Participants will ‘buddy’ with an existing Non-Executive Director and attend board and sub-committee meetings, as well as have access to the organisation under local arrangements. This is designed to offer practical help to participants when applying for Non-Executive positions in the future, either with KMPT or other NHS organisations.
